The Indian government has proposed a cut in import tariffs on luxury vehicles and motorcycles in the Union Budget 2025 to strengthen the automotive industry and attract international investment.
The import duty on motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 1,600 cc has been reduced from 50% to 40% to make high-capacity motorcycles more affordable and encourage sales in the premium two-wheeler market.
The import taxes on luxury cars have also been lowered, with the customs duty on cars over $40,000 reduced from 125% to 70%.
The reduction in import duties is expected to benefit companies like Harley-Davidson and Tesla, facilitating better pricing and market penetration in India.
