Bybit has obtained a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license in Austria and inaugurated its European headquarters in Vienna, enabling the provision of crypto-asset services across the 29 European Economic Area member states.
The company's Vienna headquarters will create over 100 jobs to support EU operations and compliance, focusing on regulatory adherence, user engagement, and partnering with local universities to educate about blockchain.
In a significant incident, Bybit experienced a major hack in February 2025 resulting in a $1.5 billion loss, attributed to North Korean hackers. Despite efforts to recover funds, €1.5 billion remains only partially traced.
Bybit was removed from the French financial regulator AMF's blacklist in February 2025, and it continues expanding globally while enhancing compliance measures. The company now operates in Austria under MiCA regulations, positioning the country as a hub for crypto oversight.
