Chinese automotive giant BYD has unveiled its new Super E-Platform for electric vehicles (EVs).
The platform features a 1000-volt architecture, allowing for a DC charging rate of up to 1000kW (1MW).
BYD claims that a five-minute charge at 1000kW can provide an extra 400km of range, bringing EV charging closer to refueling times for combustion-powered vehicles.
However, there is currently a scarcity of 1000kW chargers, making it unlikely for this technology to be widely available in the mass market for some time.
