Byju’s American assets Epic and Tynker sold for a song

  • Troubled edtech company Byju’s has sold its American assets, coding platform Tynker and kids learning platform Epic, for a fraction of what it paid for them.
  • CodeHS purchased Tynker for $2.2 million, a significant drop from the $200 million Byju’s paid in 2021. Epic was sold to China's TAL Education Group for $95 million after Byju’s bought it in 2022 for $500 million.
  • Lenders had filed a petition in a US court to initiate bankruptcy proceedings against Byju’s subsidiaries Epic, Tynker, and Osmo due to fraudulent transfers and theft.
  • Byju’s founders have moved the NCLT and NCLAT seeking a stay on the committee of creditors and removal of the resolution professional amidst concerns over ongoing asset sales.
