The Union Cabinet approved a national scheme to upgrade ITIs and establish five National Centres of Excellence for Skilling with a budget of Rs 60,000 crore over five years.
Approval was given for the academic and infrastructure expansion of five new IITs in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, and Karnataka.
The scheme will adopt an industry-led Special Purpose Vehicle approach to collaborate on curriculum design and infrastructure management, focusing on ToT and improving vocational education quality.
The objective is to bridge the industry-demand gap through updated course content, aiming to enhance employability and make vocational training more appealing for the future.
