Researchers from Northeastern University published a technical paper on cache occupancy attacks targeting the System-Level Cache (SLC) of Apple M-Series SoCs.
The paper introduces SLC-cache occupancy attacks on Apple M1 SOC, allowing monitoring of GPU and CPU cluster activities from a different CPU cluster.
Proposed attacks include coarse-grained fingerprinting, fine-grained pixel stealing, and a novel screen capturing attack, posing security threats to system security.
The findings emphasize the need for countermeasures against cache occupancy attacks in heterogeneous computing environments.
