The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has introduced new regulations governing cryptoasset transactions and activities within the country.
The regulations classify cryptoassets into two groups: Group 1 includes tokenized traditional assets and stablecoins backed by traditional assets, while Group 2 includes unbacked cryptoassets.
Commercial banks may engage with Group 1 cryptoassets if authorized by the NBC, with exposure limits of 5% for tokenized traditional assets and 3% for stablecoins.
Cryptoasset Service Providers (CASPs) must obtain licenses from the NBC and comply with strict regulations, failure to comply may result in fines.
