Researchers at the University of New South Wales in Sydney have developed an interactive game named PainWave that aims to alleviate chronic and nerve pain without the use of drugs.
The game utilizes a neurofeedback system where users control their brainwaves, which are picked up by a 3D printed headset and translated into visuals on a tablet as they play.
A small trial with four participants showed promising results, with three reporting significant pain reduction towards the end of the four-week treatment.
The researchers are planning a larger study with 224 people suffering from nerve pain, aiming to make the interactive game a widely available drug-free pain relief option.
