Rocco Design Architects Associates has completed the new annex for the Art Museum at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) with a design focused on contextual sensitivity and structural clarity.
The new annex, themed 'Upon Heritage Stems New Marvels,' incorporates a cantilevered mass extending 12 meters above the terrain, referencing geological forms while preserving existing trees and topography.
Informed by traditional Chinese landscape paintings, the annex's massing and spatial organization create continuity between new and existing galleries, enhancing visitor circulation and experience.
The design features a V-shaped column symbolizing '承' (support) in Chinese culture, integrating this cultural concept into the architectural and structural elements of the annex.
