Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed to remove the 6% equalisation levy on online advertisements.
The proposed changes will come into effect on April 1, and the levy removal was approved by the Lok Sabha.
The equalisation levy, also known as the 'Google Tax', was introduced in 2016 to tax payments made by Indian businesses to foreign companies for digital advertising services.
The move to repeal the tax is seen as a response to avoid conflict with the US and strengthen India's ongoing trade talks with the country.
