Outgoing CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger mentioned that the agency might authorize crypto perpetual contracts circulation soon, aiming to bring trading back to the US.
Perpetual contracts, popularly known as "perps", are similar to regular futures but do not have expiration dates, allowing indefinite holding.
Currently, these contracts are more popular outside the US, with exchanges like Binance, OKX, and Bybit leading the market globally in offering over 500 crypto perpetual pairs.
Mersinger highlighted the importance of regulating perpetual contracts in the US as it would benefit the markets and the industry as a whole.
