A total of 4,515 child adoptions were recorded in 2024-25, marking the highest figure in over a decade, according to data from the Central Adoption Resource Authority.
Despite this progress, official data reveals that 35,549 prospective adoptive parents remain registered with CARA.
The increase in adoptions has been credited to several enhanced measures, including an intensive identification drive that added 8,598 children to the adoption pool, as stated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
CARA established 245 new adoption agencies to streamline the adoption process and provide a structured support system for prospective adoptive parents.
