China approves rules for national ‘online number’ ID scheme

  • China has approved rules for a national 'online number' ID scheme where citizens can use one logon across multiple online services, issued by the government after providing identity documents.
  • The initiative aims to provide a single credential for accessing government and private online services to enhance security and reduce personal information sharing. It's not mandatory for citizens to acquire these IDs, and discrimination against other credentials is prohibited.
  • Xiaomi has developed custom system-on-chips for its smartphones and smartwatches, featuring a 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, and 6-core NPU. The company's move has been celebrated by UK-based chip design firm Arm.
  • NTT Docomo, the creator of Emoji, has announced the retirement of its custom Emoji collection, stating changes are needed considering the current usage of emojis on devices.
