China has approved temporary export licenses to rare-earth suppliers of the top US automakers, enabling suppliers to General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., and Jeep-maker Stellantis NV to export some rare earth supplies.
China's restrictions on rare earth exports pose risks to global automakers' supply chains, and the move comes after restrictions imposed in April raised trade tensions with the US.
Stellantis is working with its suppliers to ensure an efficient licensing process for rare earth exports and has been able to address immediate production concerns without major interruptions.
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to hold more talks to resolve issues related to rare earth magnets and other matters, following tensions over trade agreements and tech exports.
