A Chinese tyre maker is under investigation by Thailand's industry ministry for alleged smuggling of substandard tyres into the country for resale.
The tyres had their original logos or brand names removed and were bearing new branding, including 'Made in Thailand' labels, before being sold in Thailand.
The ministry is concerned that exporting these substandard tyres as Thai-made products could damage Thailand's reputation in global markets.
The Chinese firm's factory was inspected, and the tyres were found stored alongside locally-produced tyres marked specifically for export.
