Google is set to upgrade its post-quantum encryption protection on its web browser desktop with the new Chrome 131 release. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released the first three quantum-resistant encryption standards in August 2024.The ML-KEM algorithm, based on CRYSTALS-Kyber, will be adopted by Chrome 131 for cryptographic key exchanges.Post-quantum encryption is necessary to combat security threats posed by future mass adoption of quantum computers.
