Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has filed a motion to revive its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Coinbase alleges that the FDIC has been withholding critical documents related to its communication with banks about cryptocurrency activities.
Coinbase specifically seeks records tied to 'pause letters' which instructed banks to halt crypto-related services, which the company views as a broader effort to stifle the industry.
The lawsuit was initially paused in February 2025, but cooperation from the FDIC has been insufficient, prompting Coinbase to push forward with the lawsuit.
The outcome of the lawsuit could set a precedent for transparency in the crypto landscape.
