Rock band Coldplay challenged Kardinia Energy to design a mobile solar system for their world tour, resulting in the deployment of 550 square meters of printed solar at Stanford Stadium shows.
The organic, ink-based photovoltaics used by Kardinia provided a high-profile test for mobile solar technology, skipping traditional silicon panels for a paper-thin, plastic-based film.
Kardinia's printed solar panels weigh just 300 grams per square meter and can be easily rolled up for transportation and quickly installed by a two-person crew using only ratchets and cable ties.
Although not as efficient as silicon panels per square meter, printed solar panels offer advantages in weight and shape for applications like lightweight roofs, disaster relief tents, and rapid deployment in off-grid settings.
