The Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP) criticized the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for allowing an alleged criminal, televangelist Apollo C. Quiboloy, to run in the 2025 elections.
WPP and Federation of Free Workers (FFW) President Jose Sonny G. Matula filed a motion challenging the dismissal of their petition to declare Quiboloy a nuisance candidate.
The petition was based on Quiboloy's unauthorized use of the WPP as his political party when filing his certificate of candidacy.
WPP argues that the Comelec's double standards undermine the integrity of the electoral process, as respected candidates without criminal records are disqualified while those facing serious criminal indictments are allowed to run.
