Criminal complaints have been filed by the Democratic Republic of Congo against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium over the use of conflict minerals.
The Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum, and tungsten minerals used in computers and mobile phones, some of which are sourced from mines run by armed groups involved in crimes.
Apple states that it audits suppliers and funds initiatives to improve mineral traceability but lawyers representing Congo argue that the company uses minerals pillaged from Congo.
The lawyers claim that Apple's involvement in international supply chains makes the company complicit in the crimes taking place in Congo.
