ConsenSys, a major Ethereum blockchain supporter, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a Texas federal court.
The lawsuit aims to prevent the SEC from investigating Ethereum and MetaMask, ConsenSys’ popular cryptocurrency wallet.
ConsenSys argues that treating ETH as a security would “crush the innovation and use of Ethereum in the U.S.” and cause significant harm to the broader blockchain landscape.
The lawsuit accuses the SEC of an “unlawful seizure of authority” over Ethereum and argues that the agency’s actions would violate ConsenSys’ Fifth Amendment rights and the Administrative Procedures Act.
