Construction of Christus Muguerza Hospital in Los Cabos, Mexico, designed by Fernando Romero, has commenced. The hospital features a unique radial plan and a double-skin facade with aluminum louvers to address environmental challenges.
The hospital is strategically located near the coast and the airport to become a regional landmark. Biophilic design principles, integrated greenery, and framed views aim to create a less clinical atmosphere in healthcare spaces.
The radial plan organizes the hospital into three arms with different access points, minimizing circulation conflicts. Patient wings have direct access to rooftop terraces, maximizing ocean and mountain views and natural light in all inpatient rooms.
Fernando Romero's adaptation of historic hospital typologies includes a central atrium, terraces for therapeutic purposes, and an efficient organization of clinical functions. The completion of Christus Muguerza Hospital is scheduled for 2028.
