Corning has unveiled Gorilla Glass Ceramic, a new, Apple-like (Ceramic Shield) material engineered for exceptional drop resistance, promising enhanced protection against shattering for smartphones.
Corning's Gorilla Glass Ceramic incorporates ceramic components to improve strength compared to other types of hardened glass and is expected to be used in more expensive Android phones.
Apple's Ceramic Shield, developed by Corning, has been used in the company's high-end phones since 2021 and offers improved drop performance.
The second generation of Ceramic Shield, featured in the iPhone 16 series, is advertised as being 50% tougher.
