US federal appeals court ended the FTC's lawsuit against Microsoft's takeover of Activision Blizzard, ruling against the appeal of an injunction against the initial deal.
The court ruled based on the FTC's failure to show likelihood of success on the merits of any of its theories regarding competition concerns.
FTC's objections to the merger included concerns over Microsoft having control of Activision's content, potentially leading to lessened competition in terms of product quality, price, and innovation.
The FTC initiated the campaign against the merger in late 2022, with Microsoft completing the acquisition over a year-and-a-half ago, and the legal battle has now concluded in May 2025.
