Crypto exchange Bybit announced a sophisticated attack leading to the theft of around $1.4 billion worth of Ethereum from one of its offline wallets.
The amount of ETH stolen makes it the largest known theft of cryptocurrency in history, surpassing previous breaches against the Ronin Network and Poly Network.
Bybit's CEO confirmed the theft and stated that the company is solvent and can cover the loss, even though the stolen funds may not be recovered.
Bybit, based in Dubai, had an estimated total assets of $16 billion as of last week, according to CoinMarketCap.
