Cyprus Tests Underwater Drones for Reef Conservation

  • The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) is testing underwater drones for reef conservation in a collaborative project called Eonios.
  • CMMI and underwater drone manufacturer Arkeocean are running the experiment using underwater autonomous vehicles (AUVs) to monitor artificial coral reefs.
  • Arkeocean's swarm AUVs, referred to as micro-drones, patrol the reefs collecting visual and acoustic data, while remaining noninvasive to the marine life.
