Africa's richest person, Aliko Dangote, plans to build a seaport near his fertilizer and oil refinery plants in Nigeria to streamline exports, including liquefied natural gas, and support his industrial empire's growth.
The proposed seaport, to be located in Olokola, Ogun state, aims to enhance logistics and export operations, competing with existing facilities like the Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos.
Dangote intends to encourage other entrepreneurs with the port project, which marks a comeback to a site where previous plans for a refinery and fertilizer complex had been abandoned due to conflicts with local authorities.
In addition to the seaport, Dangote plans to export liquefied gas from Lagos, sourcing natural gas from the Niger Delta to fuel his plants. He also aims to distribute fuel using gas-powered trucks, sparking concerns about monopolizing the oil sector.
