The Delhi government has released the draft of its New Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, focusing on cleaner and sustainable transportation.
The policy aims to accelerate the shift to electric mobility in various vehicle segments like two-wheelers, three-wheelers, public buses, goods carriers, and garbage collection vehicles.
It mandates a ban on new registrations of fuel-powered two-wheelers, allowing only electric vehicles starting from August 15, 2026.
The policy also targets the gradual phase-out of CNG-driven auto-rickshaws in public transportation.
Delhi plans to transition existing transport buses to electric ones and ban the registration of new petrol, diesel, and CNG-powered goods carriers by 2026.
The policy aims for a 100% electric fleet for waste collection by December 31, 2027.
Private car owners with two or more vehicles will be required to purchase only electric vehicles.
The policy also emphasizes the installation of new EV charging stations across Delhi.
The draft policy is currently under evaluation and awaits approval from the State cabinet.
The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is a significant step towards sustainable transportation and aims to improve air quality and reduce emissions.
