The Delhi High Court has expressed concern over non-advocates and agents appearing for litigants before consumer courts based on authorization letters.
The court stated that this practice dilutes the legal and ethical responsibilities of advocates and undermines the concept of 'vakalatnama'.
The court directed all consumer courts in Delhi to ensure parties are represented by advocates or authorized agents/representatives/non-advocates according to regulations.
The court also directed the state consumer commission and district consumer fora to provide details of pending cases where non-advocates are representing parties.
