Delhi is likely to witness thunderstorms, rain, and lightning throughout the last week of May as per IMD's weekly weather forecast.
Records show that Delhi experienced its wettest May since 1901 with a total rainfall of 186.4 mm, surpassing the previous record of 165 mm set in 2008.
The recent heavy rainfall in Delhi is attributed to various weather systems, including a western disturbance over north Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, and an upper air cyclonic circulation in northwest Uttar Pradesh and north Haryana.
The intense rainfall in May reflects the increasing variability in India’s pre-monsoon weather patterns, indicating a warming atmosphere with more moisture disrupting established seasonal rhythms.
