Denmark is planning to pass a law that will allow its residents to copyright their face, voice, and body to prevent the use of AI-generated deepfakes without permission.
The proposed legislation aims to protect individuals from the misuse of their likeness in deepfake content, enabling them to request takedown and seek compensation for damages.
The amendment to Denmark's copyright law is set to be discussed in summer 2025, with broad support from the parliament, to address the proliferation of AI-generated deepfakes.
Other European countries like France and the UK have implemented laws targeting AI-generated deepfakes, but Denmark's proposed law uniquely focuses on granting citizens the ability to protect their own likeness.
