A detector on the sea floor off the coast of Italy has observed the first ultra-high energy neutrino. The neutrino, named KM3-230213A, had an energy of 220 petaelectronvolts, making it the most energetic neutrino ever observed. The detector, KM3NeT, was able to determine the neutrino's presence by detecting the muon it created. The discovery opens new possibilities in neutrino astronomy, allowing the exploration of extreme astrophysical phenomena.
