The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has announced two significant initiatives: the $20 million Project G.I. Challenge to fast-track next-generation UAS solutions and a new framework inviting third-party assessors to support Blue UAS NDAA compliance.
Project G.I. Challenge is a $20 million global competition to integrate resilient and secure UAS platforms into Department of Defense (DoD) operations, addressing emerging operational needs in contested environments.
DIU is opening the Blue UAS compliance process to third-party assessors, transitioning from its previous sole assessment role, expected to be operational by late summer 2025.
Industry responses include initiatives like Green UAS and Trusted Cyber to broaden trusted drone solutions, emphasizing security and reliability for commercial and non-defense government users.
