The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) terminated approximately 90% of its staff this week, as part of Trump's plan to reduce the agency's size.
The CFPB, created in 2011, aimed to prevent financial crises and has previously filed lawsuits and returned billions to consumers.
The termination notices were sent to about 1,500 employees, slashing the agency's workforce by nearly 90%.
The move to reduce the CFPB's workforce is part of Trump's efforts to cut government spending.
