The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed a rule to phase out subminimum wage for workers with disabilities.Currently, the Fair Labor Standards Act allows employers to apply for subminimum wage certificates to prevent curtailment of employment opportunities.Due to advancements in employment opportunities, subminimum wages are no longer necessary, according to DOL.The proposed rule would allow a three-year phaseout period for employers to transition to paying workers with disabilities the full minimum wage.
