The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has simplified the process for switching between prepaid and postpaid mobile connections.
The new directive, issued on June 10, 2025, reduces the mandatory cooling-off period for reconversion to 30 days for the first switch between prepaid and postpaid.
For subsequent conversions using OTP, the original 90-day lock-in period will still apply.
Subscribers need to be informed of the applicable lock-in period each time a conversion is initiated to ensure transparency and prevent misuse.
Reconversion during the lock-in period can also be done through physical verification at authorized outlets or Points of Sale (PoS) by completing the existing KYC process.
The simplified process aims to enhance user convenience while maintaining security and compliance standards.
