Electric vehicles (EVs) are being banned by drag strips and race tracks due to safety concerns.
Willowbank Raceway in Australia recently banned fully electric vehicles from racing or testing at their facility, citing fire and shock hazards.
The concerns include battery-related fire hazards, shock hazards from high-voltage systems, inaccessible doors, and the inability to confirm if an EV is completely deactivated after a wreck.
Smaller tracks may increasingly follow Willowbank's lead in banning EVs due to financial and logistical limitations, while larger tracks are investing in EV safety protocols and equipment.
