In a first for India, drones transported blood bags in Delhi as part of a validation experiment by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The drone, called 'i-DRONE', was initially used for vaccine distribution to remote areas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The experiment found that the drone could maintain the low temperature required for blood transport without damaging the products.
In 2022, a Delhi-based diagnostics company also started using drones to collect blood samples from hospitals and deliver them to labs for faster test results.
