Durin, a startup focused on automating drills for critical minerals exploration, has raised $3.4 million to drive down the cost of drilling, which accounts for 70% of the raised capital by exploration companies.
Founder and CEO of Durin, Ted Feldmann, aims to automate the drilling process by marrying robotics with drilling rigs and reducing the reliance on labor.
Durin's first drilling rig is capable of boring a hole 300 meters deep and 2.5 inches wide, and is equipped with sensors to collect data for future automated models.
Feldmann expects that within two to three years, drill rigs could operate unattended, with staff on site primarily focused on delivering supplies and monitoring progress.
