Japan has agreed to introduce the next-generation E10 series Shinkansen trains for India's Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, with the E10 likely to be operational in the early 2030s.
The E10, known as Alfa-X, can reach speeds up to 400 kmph and offers advancements in safety, energy efficiency, and passenger comfort over the current E5 models.
Japan will initially provide E5 trains for trial purposes which will later be replaced by the high-end E10 versions. The E5 trains will be used to collect operational data for design improvements.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project in India has reached milestones with the completion of a tunnel section and the progress of civil works, viaduct construction, and station development.
