The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a lawsuit against R&L Carriers Shared Services, LLC to enforce a subpoena related to an investigation into an alleged violation of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA).
The PWFA prohibits employers from placing employees on leave when a reasonable accommodation is available for pregnancy-related limitations, unless it causes undue hardship for the company.
EEOC has the authority to investigate violations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the PWFA, which went into effect in 2023.
Under the subpoena, EEOC sought information about employees at the same location as the worker in question and drivers in several states who requested accommodations for pregnancy-related restrictions.
