FromSoftware has recently announced a new Elden Ring game, Elden Ring: Nightreign, which is a co-op focused experience.
The map of the game is surrounded by archaic weather, the navigable area to a boss arena shrinks with night approaching.
Players can play Nightreign both alone and offline, during solo play the game scales down enemy health pools.
There are no Spirit Ash items to let you summon helpful NPCs in the game, and certain key handholds for solo players are also missing.
According to Ishizaki, Nightreign is very much co-op-first, and is balanced primarily around three-player teams.
It's not a live service game and you can get the complete package when you buy Nightreign.
The Nightreign concept does seem to fit in well with Hidetaka Miyazaki's comments earlier this year about working on smaller projects in the future.
It's the first time FromSoftware has made anything Soulsy where multiplayer is a menu option, rather than something slowly peeled back and investigated while travelling alone.
The game also has some confusing allusions to the wider Fromverse in the presence of Dark Souls 3's Nameless King.
Nightreign might not encourage singleplayer, but it supports it and allows players to harvest treasure dropped by other slain players via asynchronous online.
