Chromaplane, a project from Italy and Germany, won the first place in Georgia Tech's Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. It uses analog pickup coils to interact with surrounding electromagnetic fields, creating warbling tonalities.
Mulatar, from the UK, secured the second place. It combines elements from a harp, slide guitar, and percussion instruments into a unique design, resulting in minimalist yet complex sound.
Dinosaur Choir, capable of imitating vocalizations of prehistoric animals, won the third place. It recreates the sounds of a Late Cretaceous-era Parasaurolophus using 3D fabrications and fossil CT scans.
The Judges’ Special Award went to 3 Axis MIDI Guitar, which enhances MIDI guitar expressions through an additional pressure-sensitive dimension.
