The Elk Grove Police Department (EGPD) has received a waiver, granted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to operate its Drone as First Responder (DFR) program up to 400 feet across the city without requiring human observers.
The waiver enables the use of Flock Aerodome system, allowing beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations at higher altitudes with radar-based detect-and-avoid (DAA) technology.
Operating drones at 400 feet provides advantages such as expanded field of view, improved response times, and enhanced safety and stealth.
The approval of EGPD's BVLOS waiver sets a precedent for other law enforcement agencies looking to enhance their public safety efforts.
