Elon Musk-led Starlink has received a key licence from the telecom ministry in India to offer satellite communication services.
Starlink becomes the third satellite communication company after Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio to be granted the crucial licence.
Next steps for Starlink involve obtaining approvals from the Indian space regulator and securing spectrum allocation before starting commercial operations.
Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet service, includes a constellation of over 7,000 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, with the number expected to increase beyond 40,000 in the future.
