Engie has started construction on the Libélula solar-plus-storage project in Chile, with commercial operation expected before September next year.
The project in the Santiago Metropolitan Region includes a 199 MW/995 MWh energy storage and 151 MWp solar site, requiring over $310 million of investment.
Engie aims for 3.5 GW of installed energy capacity by 2027 in Chile, with more than 60% from renewable energy generation and battery capacity.
The project will incorporate 208 lithium-ion battery containers and innovative solar tracker technology, aiming to reduce carbon emissions in Latin America.
