The iron ring is the symbol of engineering in Canada.
Engineers Canada is commemorating 100 years of the Calling of an Engineer ceremony.
The first Calling of an Engineer ceremony in Canada took place in Montreal in 1925, where graduating engineering students receive the iron ring symbolizing their commitment to serving the public with integrity and ethics.
To mark the 100th anniversary, the ceremony has been modernized and made more inclusive to better reflect today’s world, with the new ceremony formally launched on April 25, 2025.
