Eternals may be Marvel’s black sheep, but its bonkers mythology looks… eternal
- The Marvel's Eternals franchise didn't do well with audiences initially, but it has still made an impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- The Eternals team prevents the birth of a new celestial which led to a big stone hand sticking out of Earth's ocean.
- Several Marvel properties, including She-Hulk and Captain America: Brave New World, directly take on the plot-dangler left by Eternals and What If...? season 3 is the latest.
- In What If... Agatha Went to Hollywood, Agatha Harkness transforms into a deity and defeats Arishem after absorbing fellow actor Kingo's power.
- What If...? allows Marvel stories to drift away from Avengers spaciness and take on an expanded group of cultural customs and graphics.
- Even though Eternals did not fit the Marvel Cinematic Universe's direction, it did stimulate new ideas with a unique blend of Pan-Asian cultural references and cosmological thriller.
- Given the interest that the MCU properties have shown in Eternals, what seems clear is that the film has made its mythology an important aspect of future Marvel stories.
