A pair of MoonPay executives lost $250,000 worth of Ethereum to a crypto scam involving a fake donation for President Donald Trump's inauguration.
The victims, believed to be MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright and CFO Mouna Ammari Siala, fell for an email scam pretending to be from Steve Witkoff, a co-chair of Trump's Inaugural Committee.
The DOJ complaint includes screenshots of emails and an Etherscan link to the transaction, revealing the scammer's attempt to launder the funds through multiple crypto addresses.
MoonPay, known for celebrity endorsements and involvement in NFT promotions, gained over 750,000 users after introducing Trump's memecoin; however, they did not respond to a request for comment on the scam incident.
