In 2002, Ann Hiatt, a newly hired assistant at Amazon, was tasked with arranging Jeff Bezos' visit to properties in Texas.
Given only GPS coordinates and no modern mapping tools, she scrambled to organize a helicopter service. During Bezos' trip, an emergency beacon signaled a potential crash, leaving Hiatt fearing she might have killed the CEO, jeopardizing Amazon's future.
Fortunately, Bezos survived the crash, even rescuing others. The land he visited later became the base for Blue Origin, his space company. Hiatt's quick thinking, including insisting Bezos take a satellite phone, played a crucial role in his safety.
